Getting Even

After years of experience writing comedy for television programs and stand up gigs, Allen began writing essays and short stories for newspapers, mostly The New Yorker. In 1971 he published his first book, Getting Even. A collection of his newspaper atricles, among some new material. It contains some of the finest comic writing of the twenthieth century.

Getting Even is a very interesting reading in the spirit of his earlier, funnier movies. Particular strong pieces are: Death Knocks, Count Dracula and Mr. Big.
