The film was shot in France and Hungary. The cost of filming the battle scenes was much cheaper in Hungary, it costed only $7 pr. person pr. day, while each person in Paris costed $40 a day.
Allen’s original working title was, Love, Death and Food.
The European actors Allen selected, were always good looking. But many turned out, once on the set, to speak little or no English. Diane Keaton recalls that only three people spoke english: She, Woody and his secretary.
The film did average well in USA but turned out to be a great hit in Europe.
