After his big hit the previous year, The Pink Panther, Peter Sellers was the primadonna on the set. People hardly noticed the infamous Woody, some were surprised later on when they found out they had worked with him.

In the movie, Woody’s character, Victor Shakapopolis, ends up with Rita, who claimed to be a close, personal friend of James Bond. Rita is played by Ursula Andress, the first Bond-girl, from Dr No. Peter Sellers was furious of an ending which featured Woody but not him.

Woody did the screenplay for the film, but the director, producer and some of the big star actors gradually forced some changes to the original script, far from Woody’s consept and a true distortion of his wit. He even threatened to take his name off the film if the changings wouldn’t stop. After that, they started changing the script without notifying him.

The film got bad rewievs, but still turned out to be the fifth best moneymaker of the year. Woody got 0,25% of the income.

Warren Beatty and Shirley MacLaine were to play in the movie, but bailed as the production loomed and people began having second thoughts.

Later on, Woody couldn’t listen to the music from the film. He would even grab his ears and moan: "I never want to hear that music again!"
